A Typical Night
A typical night follows a routine designed to support both you and your baby and to establish healthy sleep habits.
When Sarah arrives, she inquires about how everything is going. She asks when your baby was most recently fed, the maximum time they can go between feedings, how they have been sleeping, and about any concerns you might have. If there are any updates to your baby’s routine or special instructions for the night, she takes note of them. Then she takes over care of the baby so you can get some rest!
Some of the parents Sarah supports breastfeed throughout the night. Sarah will get the baby changed and ready and bring them to the breastfeeding parent when it is time to nurse. Once they are full, Sarah takes them back to the nursery, diapers them if needed, and lulls them back to sleep. If parents are pumping or using formula, Sarah prepares bottles and handles the overnight feedings. She carefully tracks feeding amounts, diaper output, and sleep patterns to share with you in the morning.
Sarah helps babies stretch the length of time they are able to sleep by identifying their need when they fuss (i.e. food, comfort) and meeting that need so they can go back to sleep. She stays in the room with the baby and sleeps while the baby sleeps, so it is important that there is a place for her to sleep as well as a bassinet or safe sleeping area for your baby.
As morning approaches, Sarah gently transitions care back to you. She provides a summary of how the night went, highlighting any notable patterns or recommendations. Before she leaves, she tidies up the nursery, washes bottles, and ensures everything is in order so you can start your day smoothly.
Often parents will take some time at the beginning or end of the shift to ask for guidance or help brainstorming solutions to challenges. Sarah enjoys providing this kind of support whenever it is asked for.
Shifts are between eight and twelve hours, starting between 6PM and 10PM and ending between 6AM and 8AM.
With Sarah’s expert care, you will wake up feeling well-rested and reassured, knowing your baby was in experienced and loving hands throughout the night.
